Statement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus for the terrorist attacks at Volgograd,

In these moments of national grief for the Russian Federation, I express my deepest and heartfelt condolences to the families of all the victims of the terrorist attacks that took place in the city of Volgograd, while conveying the strong solidarity of the Government and people of Cyprus to the friendly people of Russia.

I strongly and unequivocally condemn the aforementioned terrorist attacks resulting in the tragic death and injury of a large number of innocent civilians. These heinous attacks sadly show that the threat of terrorism has no boundaries, be it national, geographic or cultural. International political will and joint coordinated efforts are imperative in effectively eliminating this global phenomenon.

In this respect, Cyprus remains strongly committed and firmly dedicated to the international efforts for combating terrorism. It considers this to be a vital responsibility linked to its geographic position. With this in mind, Cyprus is engaged at promoting its bilateral and multilateral cooperation aiming at effectively addressing the asymmetric threat of terrorism.
