The President of the Republic departs for 
Brussels
 
The President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, 
departs this afternoon for Brussels where he will participate in the European 
Council Summit on 18 and 19 February. 
The European Council will deliberate on issues 
concerning the proposals of the United Kingdom for the Reform of the EU in view 
also of the referendum concerning the issue of the UK remaining in the EU. 
During the Summit there will be an evaluation of the 
progress achieved so far with regard to the implementation of the decisions to 
address the refugee and migration crisis. More specifically, the Summit will 
address issues related to the creation of hot spots in Italy and Greece, the 
support of the EU toward Turkey in the management of the pressures from 
migration (implementation of the EU-Turkey action plan), the strengthening of 
the management of the external borders and the management of the migration flows 
along the western Balkan’s route. 
On the sidelines of the Summit, the President of the 
Republic will have a meeting with the Chancellor of Germany, Mrs Angela Merkel. 
The President of the Republic, who will be accompanied 
by the Government Spokesman, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, will return to Cyprus on 
19 February.
