Overseas Cypriots Conference wraps up deliberations

The 25th Session of the Central Council of the World Federation of Overseas Cypriots – International Coordinating Committee “Justice for Cyprus” (POMAK-PSEKA) and the 7 th World Conference of Young Overseas Cypriots (NEPOMAK) wrapped up deliberations today at the “Filoxenia” Conference Center, in Nicosia.
During the morning meeting, the President of the Pancyprian Coordinating Committee “Justice for Cyprus” (PSEKA) Mr Philip Christopher briefly presented the actions of the Committee during the outgoing year.
Mr Christopher referred to the contacts held in the USA, aiming at the continuous promotion of the Cyprus problem among the officials of the American Government. These contacts, he noted, resulted in the visit of the Vice-President of the USA Mr Joe Biden and the support Mr Biden expressed on behalf of the Government of the USA for the ongoing efforts for finding a solution to the Cyprus problem. For the first time, Cyprus’ interests are the same as the American ones, Mr Christopher underlined. Finally, he expressed the full support of the overseas Cypriots in the efforts and the policies implemented by the Government of Cyprus.
The President of the National Coordinated Effort of Hellenes (CEH) Mr Andy Manatos addressed the meeting next. Mr Manatos underlined that continuous efforts are made to keep the Cyprus problem at the top of the agenda of the American Government. Referring to the negotiation process, he added that the USA remain engaged in the ongoing procedure and support the initiatives of the President of the Republic.
Actions are undertaken in order for the President of the Republic to meet with the President of the USA in the near future, the Ambassador of the United States of America in Cyprus Mr John M. Koenig said, addressing the meeting. The American Ambassador reiterated the commitment of the Government of the USA in the actions and the initiatives that aim at a fair and functional solution of the Cyprus problem.
The delegates also had the opportunity to be briefed by the Government Spokesman Mr Nicos Christodoulides and, during the afternoon meeting, by the Negotiator Ambassador Mr Andreas D. Mavroyiannis on the recent developments on the Cyprus problem.
Moreover, the members of NEPOMAK elected the new Executive Council of the Federation for the period 2014-16. The outgoing President Mr Christos Karaolis thanked the attendants for the excellent cooperation during his mandate. The new President of NEPOMAK is Ms Antonia Savvides, who presided over a meeting held in the afternoon.
Finally, resolutions were adopted by the delegates of the Conference.
On Thursday, 28 August, at 10p.m. the Presidents of POMAK, PSEKA and NEPOMAK, with the participation of the Division for the Overseas and Repatriated Cypriots, will give a press conference at “Filoxenia” Conference Center.
