information given on the self-styled foreign ministry's twitter account of the
breakaway regime in the occupied area of the Republic of Cyprus, self-styled
foreign minister OzdilNami is flying to
Germany on Monday 24 March for a series of official contacts.
2. Sibel asked for a representation at the IPU
Turkish Cypriot
daily HalkinSesi (19.03.14) reports that self-styled assembly speaker of the
breakaway regime in the occupied area of the Republic of Cyprus, SibelSiber,
who continues her contacts in Geneva within the framework of the
Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly (IPU), met yesterday with the Assembly
Speakers of Netherland and Gabon as well as British officials.
During the
meeting with a British committee, Siber said that the Cyprus problem is known
very well especially by Britain. Referring to the resumption of the Cyprus
talks, Siber claimed that they continue with all their strength so this time
the process ends with success.
Noting that they
desire not only the voice of the Greek Cypriots to be heard at the
international platforms but also the voice of the Turkish Cypriots, Siber said:
“At this process, we believe that a place at the international platforms should
be given to the representatives of our people”.
Robert Walter,
who was in the British committee, said that Cyprus is a special place for
Britain, adding that at the meeting with the General Secretary of IPU, an
effort should be exerted in order to give a representation to the Turkish
Cypriots like at PACE.
Later, Siber met
with the Dutch Assembly Speaker Anouchka Van Miltenburg, where she briefed her
again on the Cyprus talks, adding that she was pleased to meet another woman
Assembly Speaker. Siber also asked for her support in order to have the right
of representation at the IPU.
During the
meeting with Guy Nzouba-Ndama, President of Gabon's National Assembly, Siber
said that the solution on the ongoing Cyprus talks should be bicommunal,
bizonal based on the political equality in order to be viable. She also said
that they need the support of the international public opinion in order for the
voice of the Turkish Cypriots to be heard in the international arena, both in
social and political fields.
Nzouba-Ndama, on
his part, said that the current situation in Cyprus cannot be continued and
gave his support for a viable solution. He added that it is important for the
Turkish Cypriots to express themselves at the IPU.
3. Turkish Cypriot “MPs” held meetings in Geneva
Turkish Cypriot
daily YeniDuzen newspaper (19.03.14) reports that ZekiCeler, “MP” with the
Social Democracy Party (TDP), who is in Geneva as part of a delegation of the
“assembly” to attend the meetings of the 130th Inter-Parliamentary
Union Assembly (IPU), participated in the Young Parliamentarians’ Forum.
According to the paper, Celer held various meetings with members of the Forum.
The paper also publishes a picture of Celer with an MP from Ecuador.
In addition, the
paper writes that ErkutSahalli, “MP” with the Republican Turkish Party (CTP),
who is also in Geneva, held meetings with various MPs who are members of
Socialist international.
4. Cicek: Our wish is a solution based on the
“essential founding will and the political equality of the two peoples” in
Cyprus

daily Havadis newspaper (19.03.14) reports that the Speaker of the Turkish
Grand National Assembly (TGNA), CemilCicek
has said that Turkey’s wish is for the negotiating process in Cyprus to give a
result and a just, comprehensive and lasting solution to be reached, by
holding referenda the soonest, “on the
basis of the essential founding will of the two peoples, who are co-owners of
the island, and of their political equality”.
Addressing the
130th Inter-Parliamentary Union’s general assembly in Geneva, Cicek expressed
their satisfaction with the resumption of the Cyprus talks on 11 February 2014
under the auspices of the UN and noted that the international community should
help the sides within this context.
Cicek referred also to the events in Crimea and said
that Turkey attaches “great importance to not injuring the safety and the
well-being” of the Crimean Turkish Tatars, as he
described them.

5.Eroglu
met with Pieter Van-Nuffel
Turkish Cypriot daily Vatan (19.03.14)
reports that the Turkish Cypriot leader DervisEroglu met yesterday at the
so-called presidential palace with Pieter Van Nuffel, personal representative
of the President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barosso, to the UN Good
Offices Mission in Cyprus.
Eroglu’s “spokesman”, Osman Ertug and
his “undersecretary” HasanGungor were present at the meeting.
No statements were made before or after
the meeting.

6. Akca explains the reasons why the regime’s
products cannot enter into the Turkish market

daily Havadis newspaper (19.03.14) reports that “Foreign Trade Seminars”, which are co-organized by the Turkish
Cypriot Chamber of Industry and the illegal Eastern Mediterranean University
(“DAU”), started yesterday at the
former’s premises.
Addressing the
seminar, the Turkish self-styled ambassador to Nicosia, Halil Ibrahim Akca said that the workshop will be useful for
clarifying the reasons why products which are produced in the occupied area of
Cyprus cannot be imported into Turkey and exports of the breakaway regime are
“weak”. According to Akca, high costs,
the high input costs and the fact that some certifications and standards are
not followed in the occupied area of Cyprus are the reasons why the Turkish
Cypriot products cannot enter into Turkey. Akca said that these problems
should be solved within the “TRNC”, as he called the breakaway regime in the
occupied area of Cyprus.
Referring to the
complaints that the Turkish Cypriot products cannot enter into Turkey through
the port of Mersin, Akca noted that the
“gate of Mersin” is actually not as “hard” a gate as it is said and that the
rules implemented at other ports are also implemented in Mersin. He noted that industry in the occupied area
of Cyprus has not come to the point where it should have been.
In his address,
the chairman of the Chamber of Industry, Ali
Cirali said that the current accounts deficit of the regime is high because of
the “weak exports” and added that the exports-imports coverage ratio is 6%.
He argued that it is not difficult to achieve
the target of 20% by increasing the exports to 300-350 million dollars.

7. Afrika reacts to Turkish settler “minister’s”
allegation that Pentadaktylosmountains range does not belong to the Greeks
Cypriots

daily Afrika newspaper (19.03.14) reacts to statements made by HamitBakirci, self-styled minister of environment and natural resources of the
breakaway regime in the occupied area of the Republic of Cyprus, who had
alleged that Pentadaktylos mountain range does not belong to the Greek Cypriots
and therefore they should not interfere with what happens there.
Under the title “Both Pentadaktylos and Troodos belong
to us”,Afrika recalls that Bakirci is a Turkish
settler from Trabzon and writes, inter alia, the following:
“…How it became
his [mountain]? The Turkish army came. It shed blood. It conquered. And it
became his!
Mr Hamit set foot on this island in 1997, but it seems
that he does not understand yet that this country is the common country of all
of us Cypriots. There is no such thing as this
mountain is yours and this is mine. Or this plain is yours and this is mine.
There are also no seas and streams that belong only to the one [of us]. They
belong to all of us. All Cypriots…
Since Mr Hamit
considers Pentadaktylos to be Turkish, he certainly considers Troodos Mountains
to be Greek. That is, in his view Pentadaktylos is ours and Troodos belongs to
the Greeks. Is it so? Go out and ask any
Turkish Cypriot you like Mr minister. Whose is Troodos? Does it belong to the
Greeks or the Turks? And let us see whether you will find even a single person
who will not say that ‘they neither belong to the Greeks nor the Turks, they
belong to all Cypriots’.
Why are you
angry because the Greek Cypriot side went to Europe and complained about the
fact that we destroy Pentadaktylos by excavating? …Do you think that if the
Greek Cypriots started now to destroy Troodos like we are doing to
Pentadaktylos, would we not react to this? … Do you think that this side is one
country and the other side is another country? Even if you dream of this place as two separate states, are you not
aware of the fact that this country is one single country?
You come from Trabzon and this is surely the reason
why you do not understand us. Look, there is a new solution process now here.
We are trying to establish a united, common country. We are not sharing the
mountains and the plains at the table. We
are discussing how all these is common property to all of us. We are not
sharing the bridges. We are trying to clean the dirty waters which flow under
the bridges”.

8. Turkey stands with EU and NATO on Crimea
According to
Ankara Anatolia news agency (19.03.14), Turkish Foreign Minister AhmetDavutoglu has said his government supports
the European Union and NATO's policies regarding Russia's annexation of the
Crimean peninsula, after it declared its independence from Ukraine
following a referendum.
"We act
together with the EU and NATO on Crimea," Davutoglu said in a televised
program on Tuesday. "We also keep the door to diplomacy open with Russia,
and this is to do with our geographical location."
On Crimean
Tatars, who boycotted Sunday's referendum, Davutoglu said Turkey would strive
to ensure their security and rights and added: “We would like Crimean Tatars to see us as the guarantor for their
presence there. And we would act in accordance with this view.”
9. Deep Purple rock band will reportedly give a
concert at the illegal Near Eat University
Turkish Cypriot
daily KibrisPostasi newspaper (19.03.14) reports that Deep Purple rock band
will give a concert at the illegal Near East University in the occupied area of
Cyprus on May 24.
According to the
paper, more than 100.000 persons are expected to visit the breakaway regime in
order to attend the concert.
