The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Ioannis Kasoulides, will participate in the Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) of the EU, to be held in Brussels on Monday 18 April in Foreign Affairs and Defense Ministers formation.

Ι n a joint lunch, in the presence of NATO’s General Secretary, the Ministers will discuss the security challenges in the neighborhood. A joint meeting will follow in which the discussion is expected to be focused in the preparations of the June European Council on Common Security and Defense Policy, the follow-up to the special meeting of the European Council of 23 April, and the EU Strategic Review. Further, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs will discuss the developments concerning the Middle East Peace Process. On Monday morning, Minister Kasoulides will participate in a working lunch of the “Friends of Serbia” in the presence of the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, as well as in a working breakfast of the “Friends of Ukraine” in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.  

On Tuesday, Mr Kasoulides will participate in the General Affairs Council the deliberations of which will concentrate on migration and the situation in the Mediterranean, as well as on the preparations of the European Council of next June.

Minister Kasoulides will also participate in the Ministerial Session of the Council of Europe that will take place in Brussels on May 19 under the Belgian Presidency. The agenda of the Session includes the Council of Europe’s policy towards neighbouring regions, the Cooperation with the European Union, the effectiveness of the system of the European Convention on Human Rights and the democratic Security in Europe. In view of the upcoming Cyprus presidency in the Council of Europe (November 2016 – May 2017), the Minister of Foreign Affairs will hold a meeting with the Council’s Secretary General, Mr Thorbjorn Jagland, in order to   exchange views and coordinate on the priorities and agenda of the Cyprus Presidency.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs will return to Cyprus on Wednesday 20 May.
