The President of the
Republic participates in the opening
of the 69th
Summit of the UN General Assembly
The
President of the Republic, MrNicosAnastasiades, accompanied by the Minister of
Foreign Affairs, MrIoannisKasoulides, participated yesterday in the opening of
the 69th Summit of the UN General Assembly, in New York, during
which speeches were made by the President of the General Assembly and Minister
of Foreign Affairs of Uganda, Mr Sam KahambaKutesa and the UN Secretary-General,
Mr Ban Ki-moon.
Following
the normal practice, the general debate was opened by the President of Brazil,MrsDilmaRousseff,
followed by the speech of the President of the United States, Mr Barack Obama.
Meanwhile,
yesterday morning the President of the Republic had a meeting with the British
Foreign Secretary, Mr Philip Hammond, with whom he discussed the Cyprus issue,
issues pertaining to the EU and bilateral matters. He also had a meeting with
the Russian Foreign Minister, Mr Sergey Lavrov.
In
the evening President Anastasiades met with the leading members of the Cyprus
Federation of America, whom he briefed on the developments in the Cyprus
problem and with whom he exchanged views vis-à-vis ways to improve cooperation
between Cyprus and the overseas community in the US.
