Στην Κύπρο, θα βρίσκεται ο Γενικός Γραμματέας του Παγκόσμιου Οργανισμού Τουρισμού (UNWTO), ο οποίος αποτελεί ειδική αντiπροσωπεία (specialized agency) των Ηνωμένων Εθνών, κος. Taleb Rifai, και ο οποίος έχει προσκληθεί στην Κύπρο από τον Γενικό Διευθυντή του Κυπριακού Οργανισμού Τουρισμού και Αντιπρόεδρο της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής Τουρισμού( ETC), κ. Μάριο Χαννίδη.
Πρόθεση της επίσκεψης του κ.Rifai είναι να εκφράσει ο ίδιος προσωπικά από την Κύπρο, τη θέση του Παγκόσμιου Οργανισμού Τουρισμού, για τη στήριξη του προς την Tουριστική Βιομηχανία της πατρίδας μας.
Με αφορμή την παρουσία του κ. Rifai στην Κύπρο, ο Παγκόσμιος Οργανισμός Τουρισμού διοργανώνει, υπό την ευθύνη του Κυπριακού Οργανισμού Τουρισμού, ολοήμερο εργαστήρι (workshop) την Παρασκευή 24 Μαΐου 2013 στο Συνεδριακό Κέντρο ΦΙΛΟΞΕΝΙΑ. Σκοπός του Εργαστηρίου είναι να στηρίξει την Κύπρο στην αξιολόγηση των ενδεχομένων επιπτώσεων από τη τρέχουσα οικονομική κατάσταση και να επιβεβαιώσει την ετοιμότητα του τομέα στην αντιμετώπιση των επιπτώσεων.
Ο κ. Rifai θα έχει ενεργή συμμετοχή στο εργαστήρι και θα προβεί μετά το τέλος αυτού, γύρω στις 13.20 μ.μ. , σε δηλώσεις προς τα ΜΜΕ, όσον αφορά τα συμπεράσματα του εργαστηρίου.
Οι εργασίες του εργαστηρίου θα ανοίξουν στις 9.00 το πρωί ( επισυνάπτεται το πλήρες πρόγραμμα των εργασιών του εργαστηρίου)
Ο κ. Rifai θα έχει και χωριστές συναντήσεις με τον Πρόεδρο της Δημοκρατίας κ. Νίκο Αναστασιάδη, τον Πρόεδρο της Βουλής κ. Γιαννάκη Ομήρου, με τον Υπουργό Εμπορίου, Βιομηχανίας και Τουρισμού κ. Γιώργο Λακκοτρύπη καθώς και με τον Δήμαρχο Λευκωσίας κ. Κωνσταντίνο Γιωρκάτζη.
