Statistics on Education, 2012
The Statistical Service announces the publication of the annual report «Economic Statistics on Education» for the year 2012.
The report provides data on the number of enterprises, employment, labour costs, gross output, value added and gross fixed capital formation.
The main developments, which occurred, were as follows:
(a) At current market prices, value added in 2012 decreased by 0,04% to €1.045,5 mn compared to €1.045,9 mn in 2011 and its contribution to G.V.A. was 6,5% in 2012 compared to 6,4% in 2011. Gross output decreased by 0,7% to €1.204,0 mn from €1.212,9 mn in 2011.
(b) In the Private Education, the most important contribution to the total value added was generated by the Other education n.e.c. 30,6%, Tertiary education 23,1%, General secondary education 21,6% and Pre-primary and Primary education 12,6%. In the Public Education, the most important contribution to the total value added was generated by General secondary education 43,3% and Pre-Primary and Primary Education 38,4%.
(c) Employment in Education sector decreased by 0,5% in 2012 compared to the previous year and reached 24.398 persons, accounting for 5,7% of the total economically active population and 6,7% of the total gainfully employed population.
(d) Gross fixed capital formation in 2012 decreased by 0,2% to €45,1 mn from €55,4 mn in 2011. Investment in buildings and other works accounted for €31,3 mn, in machinery and equipment €6,7 mn, in furniture €6,7 mn and in transport equipment €0,4 mn.
