The President of the Republic received
the Ambassador of Germany
The President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, received today, at
the Presidential Palace, the Ambassador of Germany to Cyprus, Mr Nikolai von
Schoepff.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the Ambassador said: “I met the
President and I offered Germany's support for the peace process. We are very
encouraged by what is going on. Germany wants to help in a very concrete way,
especially to bring more business here. We see Cyprus as a great business hub
between Europe and the Arab world and also a united Cyprus and Germany can do a
lot to improve the business situation here. We see here great potential and we
are prepared to do more.”
Replying to a question on whether Germany supports President
Anastasiades’ proposal for a more active involvement of the EU in the peace
process, the Ambassador of Germany said: “Absolutely. Germany is in favour of a
strong EU here. Cyprus is part of the EU, and the EU should be more active here.
We fully support this.”
Asked if
during the meeting with the President they had discussed any concrete ways for
an EU involvement in the negotiations for a Cyprus solution, he noted: “I am not
really responsible for the EU but we support the President in this process. We
had a brainstorming and let's say results will come (about) later.”
