In
the coming summer, the activities in our Exclusive Economic Zone will
be even more intense, the Minister of Energy, Commerce, Industry and
Tourism,
Mr Yiorgos Lakkotrypis said today.
In
his remarks to the press, on the sidelines of his meetings with
members of the Youth of the European Popular party (EPP), at the
Presidential Palace, Mr Lakkotrypis, replying to a question on how
the energy sector could help to restart the economy, said that these
prospects can be divided into three categories. One concerns the
companies providing services for all the activities we are witnessing
in the hydrocarbon sector; the second concerns the natural gas itself
and the exploitation of the natural wealth of Cyprus; and third, the
creation of a knowledge-based economy, in other words, to be able to
export abroad, in the long-run, the best counselling services –
legal, commercial, financial, - with regard to the hydrocarbon
industry, the very services that today we seek to find abroad.
On
the sidelines of the same event, the Minister of Finance, Mr. Harris
Georgiades, in his remarks to the press, said that what will help
getting Cyprus back in the markets is our consistency in the effort
that we have already started.
Asked
about the reduction of the spreads, he said that “there could not
have been a safer and clearer indication that the course of the
Cypriot economy is on the right track. Difficulties still remain, he
added, but we will achieve what we all want, for our economy to stand
on its own, if we continue this policy that has started to produce
results.”
