The President of the Republic received a delegation
of AHEPA
The President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, received today,
at the Presidential Palace, a delegation of the American Hellenic Educational
Progressive Association (AHEPA) led by its Supreme President, Mr John
Galinis.
After the meeting Mr Galanis told reporters, among other things, that
with the President of the Republic “we discussed the remaining challenges. (The
process) is moving forward and we are very supportive of Cyprus. The Greek and
the Cypriot community in America will be very much in support of whatever the
people want and agree to with the Turkish side.”
Asked if the position of the United States on the Cyprus issue is
expected to change depending on the result of the US Presidential Elections, Mr
Galanis said “I don’t expect any significant, if any, change.”
Replying to a question on whether he is optimistic with regard to
asolution to the Cyprus problem after being briefed by the President of the
Republic, Mr Galani noted that “I would say I am optimistic because there is so
much to gain from both parties that it would be a shame and a tragedy that they
couldn’t arrive in something that is mutually agreeable. It could be a win - win
(situation) for both sides so in that respect I am optimistic. But there are
still many challenges, such as territory, citizenship and other.”
