Thefirst round of political consultations between
Cyprus
and the United Arab Emirates
took place in Nicosia
The first round of politicalconsultations between the Republic of
Cyprus and the United Arab Emirates took place today in Nicosia, as a follow-up
to the visit of President Anastasiades to the UAE in April 2014.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministryof Foreign Affairs, Ambassador
Alexandros N. Zenon, had the opportunity to discuss with the Assistant Minister
for Political Affairs, Ambassador Ahmad Abed Al Rahman Al Jarman, the bilateral
relations and ways in which these can be enhanced, matters relating to energy,
the cooperation of the two countries on the multilateral level, including the
framework of the Islamic Conference Organisation, issues of counter-terrorism
and the latest developments in the Middle East region, focusing especially on
Syria, Iraq and Yemen. Ambassador Zenon also briefed his counterpart on the
ongoing negotiations for the solution of the Cyprus problem. Furthermore,
prospects for investments in Cyprus and trade and business opportunities
provided in the UAE were also discussed. In this context, it is reminded that
the Dubai based company DP World has recently undertaken the management of two
important functions of the Limassol port.
