TheDeputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary General, Mr Farhan Haq, during yesterday’s Press briefing, referred to the Joint Statement issued by the two leaders on Sunday on the first anniversary of the talks between them.

Specifically, he said: “TheGreek and the Turkish Cypriot leaders issued a Joint Statement on the first anniversary of the talks between them, which was put out by the UN Mission there. The Greek Cypriot leader, Mr Nikos Anastasiades, and Turkish Cypriot leader, Mr Mustafa Akıncı, stressed their commitment to reach a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus question.

They noted that, although therewere still difficulties and differences, they were determined to show the necessary will and courage to overcome the remaining outstanding issues.
