Remarks by the President of the Republic
Mr Nicos Anastasiades
We are working in the direction of reunification, getting rid of the
occupation forces, and the establishment of conditions of peaceful coexistence
and joint creation, said, today, the President of the Republic Mr. Nicos
Anastasiades.
In his remarks to reporters, following the military parade that took
place on the occasion of the anniversary of the independence of the Republic of
Cyprus, President Anastasiades said, among other things, that “we must, today,
55 years later, think seriously in order to see the prospects that are opening
in front of us, but also the concerns that must preoccupy everyone. Is it to the
benefit of our homeland to remain divided with occupation forces or is it to its
benefit to evolve into a modern European state?
Between two choices there is actually only one: that of
reunification, getting rid of the occupation forces, and the establishment of
conditions of peaceful coexistence and joint creation. We are working in this
direction and I want to hope that with the contribution of Turkey as well, it
will become feasible, as soon as possible, to get rid of the occupation forces
and of the division.
I wish all the best to all the people of Cyprus, Greek Cypriots and
Turkish Cypriots.”
