A Protocol of Cooperation between Cyprus and
Russia
was approved and
initialed
Following the conclusion of the deliberations of the
8 th meeting of the Cyprus-Russia Intergovernmental Committee for
Economic Cooperation, held today in Nicosia, an important Protocol of
Cooperation between the two countries was approved and initialed, aiming, inter
alia, in further enhancing and developing the bilateral relations in various
fields. The Protocol will be signed during the official visit of the President
of the Republic in Russia, on 25 February 2015.
The Minister of Finance of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr
Harris Georgiades, presided over the meeting and headed the Cyprus delegation.
Head of the Russian delegation was the Deputy Minister of Economic Development
of the Russian Federation, Mr Nikolay Podguzov. Officials of the private sector
and representatives of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the
Cyprus-Russian Business Association, the Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency and
the Cyprus Shipping Chamber, also attended the meeting.
During the deliberations of the Intergovernmental
Committee, which was established on the basis of the Memorandum of Principles of
Economic Cooperation signed in October 1992, the economic situation in Cyprus
and Russia was reviewed, as well as the so-far cooperation between the two
countries. Moreover, ways were examined for strengthening the cooperation in the
fields of economy, commerce, industry, energy, transportations, agriculture and
livestock, tourism and culture, education, research and investments.
