The President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades,
sent today a message of condolence to the President of Israel, Mr Shimon Peres,
for the passing away of the former Prime Minister of Israel, Ariel Sharon.
In his message, the President stated the
following:
“It was with profound sorrow that I received the news
that the former Prime Minister of the State of Israel, Ariel Sharon, had passed
away.
Ariel Sharon was an instrumental figure in shaping
Israel’s history and, as a leader of strong convictions and character, has left
an indelible mark.
In these difficult moments, on behalf of the people and
the Government of the Republic of Cyprus as well as on my own behalf, I wish to
express my sincere condolences to you, the Government and the people of the
State of Israel, and our deepest sympathy to the bereaved family.”
Moreover, in his message to the Prime Minister of
Israel, Mr Binyamin Netanyahu, the President of the Republic stated the
following:
“It was with great sadness that I received the news of
the passing of the former Prime Minister of the State of Israel, Ariel
Sharon.
For decades, Ariel Sharon was a leading figure,
defending the interests of his country, as a warrior and later as a statesman,
with conviction and determination.
In these difficult moments, on behalf of the people and the
Government of the Republic of Cyprus, I would like to convey our deepest
condolences to the Government and the people of the State of Israel, as well as
our heartfelt sympathy to the
bereaved family.”
