The Minister of Justice and Public Order, Mr Ionas Nicolaou, is departing today for Brussels in
order to participate in
the deliberations of the Justice and Home Affairs Council of the EU on 5-6
December.
During the Council the EU Ministers are expected to exchange views, inter
alia, on the Proposal for a Regulation for the protection of personal data, which aims to strengthen the protection of the private life of EU citizens.
The Ministers will also deliberate on the determination of clear legal obligations
of businesses within the EU.
Moreover, the Ministers will discuss the European Account Preservation Order for the facilitation of cross border debt
recovery in civil and commercial matters, which enables the creditor to bind capitals
that the debtor has in a bank account in another member state, thus
safeguarding, to a great extent, the repayment of the debts.
In addition, the Council will also
deliberate on the insolvency procedures aiming to improve the business
environment and to support those businesses which run the risk of bankruptcy.
On the sidelines of the Council, Mr Nicolaou will
have bilateral meetings with the
Minister of Interior, the Minister of Public Order and Citizen Protection and the
Minister of Justice of the Hellenic Republic, in view of the assumption of the
EU Council by Greece on 1 January 2014.
Mr Nicolaou will return to Cyprus on Saturday 7 December.
