Remarks by the Government Spokesman
on the Cyprus Problem
In yesterday’s meeting between the leaders of the two
communities a sincere and open dialogue took place, said today the Government
Spokesman, Mr Nikos Christodoulides.
In his remarks to reporters at the Presidential Palace,
Mr Christodoulides said that “yesterday’s meeting took place in a very positive
climate; there was a constructive discussion, more generally about how they
understand the order of things and how the procedure will proceed. It was a
sincere and open dialogue. It is important that the resumption of the talks on
Friday was agreed. The first meeting will mainly deal with structural and
procedural issues. The joint declaration and all that is provided in it, were
confirmed.”
He added that with regard to Confidence Building
Measures it was agreed that the discussion begins with Confidence Building
Measures that can be pushed forward directly and fast, and mentioned, as an
example of such CBM, the opening of crossing points.
In response to a question about the frequency of the
meetings between the leaders, the Spokesman said that “there is intent and
desire by both leaders for more frequent meetings.”
He added that “with the resumption of the talks a
specific dialogue, on specific aspects, will take place and we hope that through
a substantive and sincere dialogue there will be results.”
