Search and Rescue Exercise between
Cyprus and France
SAREX
“CYPFRA - 01/15” to
be conducted near the coast of Cyprus
A
joint Search and Rescue (SAR) Daylight Exercise, titled “CYPFRA-01/15”
will
be conducted on Thursday, the 29th of January 2015 from 07:30 until
08:30, near the coast of Cyprus, with the participation of SAR Units and
Personnel from the Republic
of
Cyprus and the French Navy under the operational control and full coordination
of
the
Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) Larnaca.
The
main objective of the Aeronautical Exercise is the planning, preparation and execution of a
joint SAR exercise, in order to promote Personnel &
Rescue Units capabilities, and readiness for effective response in SAR
missions and other humanitarian operations within the Republic of Cyprus Search
and Rescue Region (SRR) and in the Eastern Mediterranean, in general.
The
scenario deals with simulated “Maritime Accidents” in which the Cyprus National SAR Plan “NEARCHOS”, will
be immediately implemented by
the JRCC Larnaca in order to confront the situation . Specifically, the
exercise will focus on daylight SAR operations and “MEDEVAC” emergency drills
onboard the French Vessel flight deck. This
is a request with high possibility which may arise from vessels that are sailing
within the Eastern Mediterranean region.
This
will be the first SAR exercise this year, between the JRCC Larnaca, which
represents the SAR system of the Republic of Cyprus, and the French Navy.
Similar exercises will be carried out at regular intervals with French
aeronautical forces operating in the Eastern Mediterranean.
