message by the President of the USA
to
the President of the Republic of Cyprus on the occasion of 1st
October
The
President of the United States,
Mr. Barack Obama,
sent the following congratulatory message to the President of the
Republic, Mr.
Nicos Anastasiades,
on the occasion of the Independence Day of the Republic of Cyprus on
1st
October:
“On
behalf of the American people, I extend our warmest wishes to you and
the people of Cyprus on the 54th
anniversary of your country’s independence on October 1.
The
Republic of Cyprus is a valued friend and partner of the United
States. Our continued cooperation is critical to promote regional
security and prosperity. I thank you for hosting Vice President
Biden’s historic visit to the island in May, which demonstrated the
United States’
commitments to strengthening our bilateral ties cooperation on areas
of mutual interest, including countering terrorism and encouraging
increased economic ties.
I also
reiterate my strong support for efforts to achieve a comprehensive
settlement to reunify the island as a bi-zonal, bicommunal
federation. Resolving the longstanding division of the island would
be the catalyst for increased prosperity and a brighter future for
all Cypriots.
Once more,
please allow me to offer congratulations to the people of Cyprus on
the special occasion of your national day.”
