The President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, attended tonight the reception at the Embassy of the Russian Federation on the occasion of the National Day of the Russian Federation.

Speaking at the reception the President said that “I am convinced that our common intention and desire is to continuously upgrade and enrich the multifaceted relations between our countries both at the bilateral as well as the regional level, benefiting our traditional friendship and solidarity between the Cypriot and the Russian people.”

He expressed his satisfaction with “the continuous display of trust and support to Cyprus by a large number of Russian citizens who maintain businesses and investments in Cyprus, something that constitutes proof of the solid bonds of deep friendship between Russians and Cypriots particularly during these difficult times for our country.”

He added that the increasing flow of Russian tourists in Cyprus is something that is welcomed and something that “we seek to further promote.”

The President expressed the Cyprus government’s deep appreciation for the principled stance of the Russian Federation with regard to the Cyprus problem.

“My government looks forward to utilizing, in full, the multifaceted prospects of our political cooperation especially in times of hardship. The contribution of the Russian Federation in shaping the international arena is necessary for the effective dealing with our common challenges with the aim of achieving geopolitical stability on an international and regional level.

To this end, Cyprus in its capacity as an EU member state has, as it has already proven, the political will to contribute in a pragmatic and constructive spirit to the establishment of confidence, strategic partnership and mutually beneficial cooperation in the wider European arena,” the President of the Republic concluded.
