The
Minister of Foreign Affairs
met
with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr
Ioannis Kasoulides, who is in Brussels to participate in the Foreign Affairs
Council of the EU, had a meeting today with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of
Denmark, Mr Martin Lidegaard. The meeting took place ahead of tomorrow’s visit
by Mr Lidegaard to Cyprus, in order to visit the Danish naval frigate “Esbern
Snare”, stationed off the coast of Cyprus and operating within the framework of
the UN-Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) joint
mission for Syria. As it is known, the frigate escorts the cargo ship, which
transports chemical weapons’ components from the port of Latakia in Syria to
the port of Calabria in Italy. The Danish Minister expressed his country’s
gratitude for Cyprus’ hospitality and its role in the mission.
During the
meeting, the two Ministers had the opportunity to review bilateral relations
between the two countries and discuss issues of international concern,
including developments in Ukraine and Syria.
Mr
Kasoulides also had the opportunity to brief his Danish counterpart on the
latest developments in the Cyprus problem. In this context, the Minister of
Foreign Affairs outlined the Cyprus Government’s proposal on Famagusta, noting
that the adoption of Confidence-Building Measures will significantly strengthen
the effort underway at the negotiating table. He furthermore stressed the need
for the prevalence of a positive spirit and underlined that the Turkish provocations
occurring within Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) do not contribute towards
this direction.
