The Secretary of State of European Affairs of Portugal, Dr Bruno
Maçães, arrives today for a two-day visit to Cyprus.
During his stay, Mr Maçães, will meet with the Minister of Foreign
Affairs, Mr Ioannis Kasoulides. The two Ministers will discuss, inter alia, the
relations between Cyprus and Portugal and possible ways of furthering bilateral
cooperation, the developments with regard to the Cyprus problem, various issues
on the European agenda, the coordination of Mediterranean EU member states, also
in the context of the informal Med Group, as well as other regional matters.
In the context of his visit, Mr Maçães, will also hold a separate
meeting with the Minister of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Mr Yiorgos
Lakkotrypis, the Under – Secretary to the President, Mr Constantinos Petrides,
as well as the President of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr
Phidias K. Pilides. Furthermore, Mr Macaes will deliver a speech, during a
lecture co-organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Office of the
European Parliament and the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus,
entitled “Is Europe still a Global Player?”
The Secretary of State of European Affairs of Portugal will conclude
his visit to Cyprus on the 27 th of February.
