Minister visits Cyprus

The Danish Prime
Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt will visit Cyprus today. The Prime Minister will
have a bilateral meeting with the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos
Anastasiades.
The Danish Prime
Minister is the first head of state to visit the island following the agreement
to restart the Cyprus peace negotiations. In her meeting with President
Anastasiades the Prime Minister will discuss the landmark agreement to restart
the Cyprus negotiations, the implementation of the Cyprus reform program
following the economic crisis and the international efforts to remove chemical
weapons from Syria.
The meeting will
take place on board the Danish frigate HDMS Esbern Snare which leads the
Danish-Norwegian-British task force involved in the removal of Syria’s chemical
weapons under the OPCW-UN Joint Mission. Russia and China also provide naval
assets to the operation.
The Danish Prime
Minister will also meet the multinational crew on board the Danish vessel. Prior
to her visit to ESSN the Prime Minister will discuss the latest developments in
Syria with the OPCW-UN Special Coordinator Sigrid Kaag.
