ΑΝΑΚΟΙΝΩΣΗ ΕΥΡΩΒΟΥΛΕΥΤΗ ΤΑΚΗ ΧΑΤΖΗΓΕΩΡΓΙΟΥ

Απέστειλα  πριν λίγο επείγουσα επιστολή προς τους Προέδρους της Ευρωπαικής Επιτροπής και Ευρωπαικού Κοινοβουλίου καθώς και προς την Ύπατη Εκπρόσωπο της ΕΕ

αναφορικά με την νέα δίωξη που ασκείται εναντίον του κύριου Ντεμιρτάς καθώς και την βίαιη καταστολή των Κούρδων στην νοτιοανατολική Τουρκία.

Σύμφωνα με δημοσιεύματα του τουρκικού τύπου ο κύριος Ντεμιρτάς κατηγορείται από τις εισαγγελικές αρχές στην Άγκυρα για σχόλια που εκανε υπέρ της αυτοδιάθεσης  των Κούρδων. Σημειώνω ότι η τελευταία δίωξη του Ντεμιρτάς έρχεται μόλις λίγες βδομάδες μετά την αποτυχημένη δολοφονική απόπειρα εναντίον του. Και είναι φυσικά μέρος του γενικότερου πολέμου που το τουρκικό κράτος έχει κηρύξει εναντίον των Κούρδων πολιτών του στην νοτιανατολική Τουρκία.

Για αυτό ζήτησα  από τους Πρόέδρους Γιούνκερ και Σούλτς καθώς και από την κα. Μογκερίνι όπως ασκήσουν άμεση πίεση στην Τουρκία για να σταματήσει την δίωξη του κ Ντεμιρτάς και να επιστρέψει πίσω στο τραπέζι των διαπραγματεύσεων για επίλυση του κουρδικού. Οι ευρωπαϊκοί νόμοι και οι αξίες πρέπει να τηρούνται από όλα τα κράτη μέλη, πόσο μάλλον από τα  κράτη που φιλοδοξούν να ενταχθούν στην ΕΕ. Αυτή είναι η στιγμή για την ΕΕ να δείξει ότι εννοεί όταν καλεί την Τουρκία να αποδείξει ότι σέβεται αυτές τις αξίες.

Την επιστολή υπέγραψα υπό την ιδιότητα μου ως εισηγητού της Έκθεσης για την Τουρκία εκ μέρους της Αριστεράς και Αντιπροέδρου της Μικτής Κοινοβουλευτικής Επιτροπής ΕΕ-Τουρκίας.

Dear Mr. President of the European Commission,

Dear Mr. President of the European Parliament,

Dear Vice-President/ High Representative of the European Commission,

I am writing to you to express my deepest and most serious concern about the launching of an investigation into the co-chair of the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), Selahattin Demirtas, over comments on Kurdish self-rule, from the public prosecutor’s office in Ankara. This comes just over a month after the assassination attack against Mr. Demirtas. According to the Dogan news agency the investigation into the co-chair’s statements was started on Monday.

I would like to draw your attention to the fact that the latest persecution of Mr. Demirtas is just a continuation of the brutal war that the Turkish government had declared on its own people in the Kurdish southeastern region since Mr. Ertogan suspended the Kurdish peace and negotiation process on April 2015. A negotiation process that the EU fully supported while it was in place! Since April 2015, the de facto martial law and the suspension of all fundamental human rights and freedoms imposed by the Turkish government is taking a heavy toll on the lives of hundreds of innocent people.

European laws and values must be respected by all Member States, not to mention those states that aspire to join the EU. This is the time for the EU to show that it means business when it calls Turkey to prove that it respects those values. In this context, I strongly urge you to exert immediate pressure on Turkey to stop  the persecution of Mr. Demirtas as well as re-launch the peace process and return to the negotiating table.
