Written statement by the Government Spokesman on
a telephone communication of the President of the
Republic and the UNSG
The President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades,
had in late afternoon yesterday, a telephone communication with the United
Nations Secretary-General (UNSG), Mr Ban ki-Moon, during which he briefed the
Secretary-General on Friday’s, 15 May, official resumption of the talks on the
Cyprus problem of, as well as about the discussion between the two leaders.
The President of the Republic reiterated his wish that
through a sincere and substantive dialogue, with the participation of all
parties involved, those prospects that will allow us to be optimistic about the
termination of the occupation and the reunification of our homeland will be
created.
On his part, the UN Secretary-General expressed his
optimism about the resumption of the talks, pointing out the readiness of the UN
to contribute to the new effort within the good offices framework.
