The President of the Republic had a private
meeting
with the Prime Minister of
Greece
There is a complete identity of views between Athens and
Nicosia, emphasized the President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, today,
during his private meeting with the Prime Minister of Greece, Mr Alexis Tsipras,
in Athens.
On the sidelines of the Greece-Cyprus-Egypt tripartite
meeting in Athens, President Anastasiades had a private meeting, today, with the
Prime Minister of Greece, which was followed by expanded consultations between
the delegations of the two countries.
At the private meeting, Mr Tsipras, in welcoming the
President, said that they will hold talks at a bilateral level, as well as with
the President of Egypt, and added that the two countries will proceed with their
strategically important cooperation.
He also referred to the impending Cyprus-Greece-Israel
tripartite meeting that will take place in Nicosia next January.
Mr Tsipras added that Greece and Cyprus are becoming
factors of stability and cooperation in a turbulent region, and pointed out that
this will also contribute to the efforts of the President of the Republic to
achieve a viable and just solution (to the Cyprus problem) which will also
change the situation in the area.
On his part, President Anastasiades referred to the
important contribution of Greece to, among other issues, the Cyprus problem, and
noted that there is a complete identity of views, including on the issue of
guarantees, which he characterized as an anachronistic system.
He added that the focus now concerns the substance which
is dealing with the big national issues on the basis of common principles.
Referring to the Athens Declaration that is expected to
be issued after the tripartite meeting, the President said that relationship
with neighboring countries is becoming deeper, noting that there is a
possibility for expansion following also his visit to Jordan.
Earlier, the President of the Republic had a private
meeting with the President of Egypt Mr Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, which was followed
by expanded consultations between the delegations of the two countries.
