The President of the Republic received a congratulatory
message
From the President of the Hellenic Republic
The President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades,
received a congratulatory message from the President of the Hellenic Republic,
Mr Prokopis Pavlopoulos, on the occasion of the 55 th anniversary of
the Independence of the Republic of Cyprus.
In his message, President Pavlopoulos stated the
following:
“On the occasion of the celebration for the
55th anniversary of the declaration of the Independence of the
Republic of Cyprus, I extend to you my warmest wishes for the freedom and
welfare of Cypriot Hellenism and all the people of Cyprus.
I want, for one more time, to assure the fraternal
people of Cyprus that their hopes and expectations for the future constitute our
common national goals, particularly, today when both countries face multiple
challenges in the area of Europe, but also that of the Eastern Mediterranean.
The firm, close corporation with the Republic of Cyprus
and our joint effort for a just and viable solution to the Cyprus problem on the
basis of the decisions of the United Nations and the capacity of Cyprus as an EU
member state, continue to be the cornerstone of the policy of Greece with regard
to our top national issue.
The Cyprus problem remains, for more than 40 years, an
open international issue and is a resounding reminder to the international
community, in order for it to intensify its efforts towards finding a just and
viable solution. The resumption of the bicommunal talks creates a prospect in
the right direction, once it is ascertained that the other side is also
determined to contribute constructively in achieving a positive result.
Greece, rest assured, will continue to provide its
contribution so that the vision of a reunified Cyprus becomes a reality, a
Cyprus free of occupation troops and of the last anachronistic wall in Europe
that divides the island.”
