1.Denktas
met with Arinc in Ankara; The so-called presidential elections and the new
economic program were discussed
Under the title: “They discussed the new program”, Turkish Cypriot daily HalkinSesi
newspaper (12.03.15) reports that the so-called deputy prime minister and
“minister of economy, tourism, culture and sports” SerdarDenktas, within the
framework of his contacts in Ankara, met yesterday with Turkey’s Deputy Prime
Minister, responsible for Cyprus Affairs, BulentArinc.
In statements during the meeting, Denktas said that they exchanged views with
Arinc regarding the new economic program of 2016-2018.
Also speaking, Arinc referred to the
so-called presidential elections which are scheduled to take place in the
occupied area of Cyprus on April 19 and said: “What is important in the
elections is the choice of our Turkish Cypriot brothers. We will show a great
respect to them”.
Arinc stated further that during the
meeting, they discussed with Denktas issues which interest both “countries”. He
said that they discussed both the preparation works for the economic program of
the years 2016-2018 and also the projects they aim to prepare for the economic
development of the “TRNC”.
Regarding the so-called presidential
elections, Arinc said: “These elections are certainly very important.
Presidential elections are very important for North Cyprus, Turkey and for the
whole region. I know that the current candidates are very prestigious persons.
I wish success to all of them. (…) We are all aware that Turkey has very close
ties with North Cyprus. The TRNC grows up, it progresses and becomes stronger”,
Arinc alleged.

Denktas supports TFF’s initiative and apologizes on behalf of the Turkish
Cypriot “people”
Turkish Cypriot daily Havadis (12.03.15)
reports that the self-styled deputy prime minister and minister of economy,
tourism, culture and sports SerdarDenktas, who evaluated the Turkish Football
Federation’s (TFF) initiative to open a “representation office” in the occupied
area of the Republic of Cyprus as “spectacular”, made a new statement yesterday
and apologized on behalf of the Turkish Cypriot “people” for the reactions on
this issue. Denktas said that it is obvious to be a reaction on this issue in
Cyprus, either due to lack of information or completely unawareness.
Denktas apologized on behalf of the
Turkish Cypriots during his meeting with the Turkish Deputy Prime Minister
responsible for Cyprus affairs BulentArinc within the framework of his contacts
in Ankara.
On the same issue, speaking upon his
return from Ankara yesterday, Denktas apologised to the Anatolian people for
the remarks and statements issued by various organisations, politicians and
associations in the “TRNC” against the initiative, illegal Bayrak television
(online, 12.03.15) broadcast.
“It was us who requested a solution to
the crisis we faced, it is the TFF who launched an initiative to solve this
problem and yet again it is the Turkish Football Federation which is accused of
bypassing the KTFF”, he said.
Claiming that the TFF is working to open
a representation office in the occupied area of the Republic of Cyprus because
the “KTFF” is not recognized, Denktas said: “Of course all this is subject to
FIFA’s approval”.
Denktas also criticized those who have
reacted sharply to the TFF’s initiative, adding: “I don’t understand where this
complex is coming from. Those who have taken on a duty to attack Turkey on
grounds that it is bypassing us should reconsider and review their actions”.

office in occupied Cyprus
Turkish Cypriot daily HalkinSesi
newspaper (12.03.15) reports that AkifCagtatayKilic,
the Youth and Sports Minister of Turkey expressed the belief that the issue

Kilic who issued a written statement,
said that the problems occurred on the issue will be solved in a very short
time and added that the statements made and the reaction showed by the “Turkish
Cypriot football federation” on the subject distressed “sport minister”
SerdarDenktas, who was visiting Turkey, very much.
“But later we talked and he left feeling
happy since the issues on the subject were solved”, he stated. Kilic stated that there are FIFA and
international rules in the breakaway regime that must be abided by, however he
claimed that it is within those rules and regulations that the Turkish
Federation had taken this step.

Clashes within the “government” over TFF’s request to open a “representation
office” in the occupied area of the Republic of Cyprus
Today’s Turkish Cypriot newspapers
(12.03.15) continue to report in their first pages the ongoing reaction on the
Turkish Football Federation’s (TFF) initiative to open a “representation
office” in the occupied area of the Republic of Cyprus, emphasizing the fact
that there are clashes within the “coalition government” of the breakaway
regime on this issue. The headlines of some Turkish Cypriot dailies are as
follows:
KIBRIS: “The coalition fell into
contradiction”.
HAVADIS: “The ‘ball’ exploded in the
government”
YENIDUZEN: “Yorgancioglu: It’s
impossible to accept it. Serdar: TFF’s initiative is spectacular”
On the same issue, the leader of the
Social Democracy Party (TDP) CemalOzyigit described the initiative of the TFF
without notifying the “Turkish Cypriot football federation” (“KTFF”) as
disrespect to the Turkish Cypriot “people”. He also stressed that the only
solution in the process that they are included is the Cyprus Football Association
(CFA), adding that they support the steps that the “KTFF” has taken in this
direction.
The United Cyprus Party (BKP) criticized
also the initiative of the TFF to open a “representation office” by
disregarding the “KTFF”. The general secretary of the BKP Abdullah Korkmazhan
described this initiative as an indication of the integration perceptive that
Turkey sees the north part of Cyprus as its province. He also said that this
TFF’s initiative is a separatist effort to prevent the Turkish Cypriot football
to unite with world football, adding that they support the efforts of the
“KTFF” to carry out cooperation with CFA and UEFA.
Meanwhile, the leader of the National
Unity Party (UBP) Huseyin Ozgurgun said that it is not possible the “KTFF” to
come under the CFA, adding that whatever they have accomplished until today has
always been with the cooperation and consultation of Turkey. He also said that
the TFF should make cooperation with the “KTFF” in every way.
The same stance is expressed also by the
“Turkish Cypriot football trainers association” (“KTFAD”). It believes that the
initiative of TFF will contribute to the application of the “KTFF” to become
member of FIFA.

5.Yorgancioglu:
“The government is ready to do all necessary for the negotiations”
Under the title: “The government is ready to do all necessary for the negotiation talks”,
Turkish Cypriot daily Kibris newspaper (12.03.15) reports that the so-called
prime minister OzkanYorgancioglu,
replying yesterday to a reporter’s question after the meeting of the “council
of ministers” regarding the issue of NAVTEX, said that the “government” is
ready to do all necessary in order to give the opportunity for the “president”
to be elected, to carry out negotiation talks.
“The
Greek Cypriot side is necessary to give the same chance”, Yorgancioglu
added.

Columnist writes that Akinci may win at the April “presidential elections”
Turkish Cypriot daily HalkinSesi
newspaper (12.03.15) publishes an article by AysuBasri regarding the
forthcoming “presidential elections” to be held in the breakaway regime.
Basri
writes in her column that it is very difficult to predict the outcome of the
“elections”, however it is possible that independent candidate Mustafa Akinci
will be the winner.
She
also writes that the “election’s results” will determine the fate of the two
big parties in the breakaway regime: Of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) and
of the National Unity Party (UBP) which faced “elections’” defeats recently and
which want very much to win the “elections”. She also writes that the
percentage that independent candidate KudretOzersay will receive will be of a
great importance as regards the outcome of the elections and his own ambitions
since this will determine his political future as well.
Writing about the advantages and
disadvantages of Akinci, Basri writes that his main advantage is that he
receives votes from both the left and the right and also that he is perceived
as a master politician on the Cyprus problem. His disadvantage is the small
budget of his campaign and that there is no any large organization to support
his effort.
For the Turkish Cypriot leader
DervisEroglu, Basri writes that his main advantage is the large group of voters
who feel loyal to him. However, Basri thinks that many internal problems faced
by UBP as well as the disorganization in the cooperation between UBP and the
Democratic Party (DP) which also supports the Turkish Cypriot leader, may cost
Eroglu a lot of voters.
According to the columnist, CTP’s
candidate SibelSiber’s main advantage is that she was very successful when she
acted as “interim prime minister” and that she is very much liked by the “public”. Her disadvantage is
that her candidacy will be negatively affected by the fact that CTP which is in
“power” is accused of not taking action on “internal issues” and of the
developments on the Cyprus problem.

of KTOEOS trade union TahirGokcebel stated that neither the workers want to
become slaves, nor they want a fake government to rule. The paper writes that
the protestors’ reactions will continue the following days.
In addition, HalkinSesi also writes that
“prime minister” OzkanYorgancioglu
reacted against the demonstrations. He said that he respecst the right to
strike but added that he does not understand why a demonstration and a strike are
organized for such a “simple reason”, as he said and added that the trade
unions must understand that the “government” cannot satisfy every demand they
have.
