The President of the Republic continues his contacts in New
York
In the framework of his visit to New York the President of the
Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, had separate meetings yesterday with the
President of Egypt, Mr Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the Prime Minister of Lebanon,
Mr Tamman Salam. The topics of discussion during the meetings were, inter alia,
the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean and in the specific countries
themselves, as well as the possibilities of EU assistance. President
Anastasiades also briefed his interlocutors on the present phase of the Cyprus
problem.
After the President’s meeting with his Egyptian counterpart a joint
communiqué was issued, which reaffirms the strengthening of cooperation between
Cyprus and Egypt.
Moreover, yesterday afternoon President Anastasiades had a meeting
with the leaders of the World Jewish Congress, which was also attended by the
Government Spokesman, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, Cyprus’ Ambassador to Washington
D.C., Mr George Chacalli, and the Permanent Representative of the Republic to
the UN, Ambassador Nicholas Emiliou.
In the evening President Anastasiades and his spouse attended the
reception hosted by the US President, Mr Barack Obama, in honour of the Heads of State and Government who are in New York for the UN
General Assembly.
