The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Ioannis Kasoulides, departs today
for Washington where he will pay a four-day visit.
On Tuesday, 13 May, Mr Kasoulides will meet with his American
counterpart, Mr John Kerry, with whom he will discuss, inter alia, the Cyprus
problem, bilateral relations and the developments in the Southeastern
Mediterranean region as well as international and regional issues of common
interest.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs will also have a meeting with the
Deputy National Security Adviser for President Barack
Obama, Mr Tony Blinken, as well as with Vice-President Biden’s National Security
Advisor, Mr Jake Sullivan. Moreover, Minister Kasoulides will have contacts with
Members of the United States
Senate under the Senate’s Chairman , Mr Robert Menendez, as well as with leaders of Cypriot, Greek and
American-Jewish overseas organizations.
During his visit, Minister Kasoulides will address the opening of the
“American Jewish Committee”’s international meeting, and he will deliver
separate speeches at the “Atlantic Council” and “The Chicago Council on Global
Affairs” think tanks. His speeches will focus on the Cyprus’ role in the
Southeastern Mediterranean region and the challenges that Cyprus has to deal
with as regards the energy sector and security, in general.
On the sidelines of his visit, Mr Kasoulides will give interviews to
local and international media representatives.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs will return to Cyprus on Saturday,
May 17, 2014.
