The
Minister of Foreign Affairs,
Mr Ioannis Kasoulides, participated in the Informal Ministerial
Meeting of the Mediterranean Group (Med Group) which took place
in Alicante, Spain, on 14 April 2014.
The
Mediterranean Group has been formed on the initiative of the
Cypriot Foreign Minister and constitutes an informal negotiation
and coordination group of the seven Mediterranean EU member
states (Cyprus, Greece, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal and
Malta.)
The
first meeting of the Med Group took place in Brussels last
December, chaired by Mr Kasoulides, while Spain hosted the
second Ministerial Meeting in Alicante, chaired by the Spanish
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr José
Manuel García-Margallo. During yesterday’s meeting, the
Foreign Affairs Ministers of the Med Group discussed issues
relating to the Neighborhood Policy, with emphasis on the
Southern Dimension, the role of the “Union for the
Mediterranean”, as well as the migration flows in the
Mediterranean in relation, also, with the followed EU approach.
