Visit
of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to Israel and Palestine
The Minister of Foreign
Affairs, Mr. Ioannis Kasoulides, will travel today to Tel Aviv for an official
visit.
During his visit, Mr. Kasoulides will be received by the President of Israel, Mr. Shimon Peres and will hold separate meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Avigdor Liberman, the Minister of Energy, Mr. Silvan Shalom, and the Justice Minister, Ms Tzipi Livni.
Issues on the agenda of the Minister’s contacts in Israel will include, inter alia, bilateral relations with emphasis on the prospects for further cooperation in the energy sector, the Cyprus Problem, the Middle East Peace Process, the developments in the Middle East and the wider Southeastern Mediterranean region, as well as other issues of common interest.
In the context of his visit to Israel, Minister Kasoulides will also meet with the President and members of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee of the Israeli Parliament, as well as the Head of the Parliamentary Opposition and Head of the Labour Party, Mr. Isaac Herzog. Moreover, Mr. Kasoulides will visit the Patriarchate of Jerusalem, where he will meet with Patriarch Theophilos III.
On the 20th of February, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will travel to Ramallah, where he will hold separate meetings with the Prime Minister of Palestine, Dr. Rami Hamdallah, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Riad Malki. The focus of the discussions with Palestinian officials will be on the bilateral relations, the Cyprus problem, the Middle East Peace Process, and on regional and developments in the Middle East and South Mediterranean.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs will return to Cyprus on Friday, 21 February 2014.
