The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr
Ioannis Kasoulides, departed yesterday for Brussels, to participate in the
Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) and the General Affairs Council (GAC) of the
European Union, to be held on 10 and 11 December, respectively.
Issues on the agenda of the FAC will
include, inter alia, the Eastern Partnership, the developments in the Southern
Neighborhood with particular emphasis on Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia, Libya
and Yemen, as well as the situation in the Central African Republic. The EU
Ministers of Foreign Affairs will also be debriefed on the EU-Russia Strategic
Partners Summit, which took place on 28 January in Brussels.
In the context of the GAC, the Ministers
will exchange views on the resolutions, opinions and decisions adopted by the
European Parliament at its part-sessions in Strasbourg. Furthermore, the
Programme and Priorities of the Greek EU Presidency will be presented. The EU
Ministers will also prepare the upcoming European Council meeting, to be held
between 20-21 March.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs will
return to Cyprus tomorrow, 11 February.
