Travel advice by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Thailand

Travel advice for the citizens of the Republic of Cyprus who are permanent residents or intend to visit Thailand.

The citizens of the Republic of Cyprus, who are permanent residents or intend to travel to Thailand, are advised to avoid all travel in certain areas in the country, where mass gatherings and demonstrations may be taking place.

Political demonstrations are taking place mainly in Bangkok and may spread rapidly to other parts of the country, including the tourist island of Phuket. The Thai Government declared (21/1/2014) a sixty-day State of Emergency in Bangkok and surrounding areas from 22 January, 2014. This gives security forces the power to impose curfews, detain suspects without charge, censor media, ban political gatherings and declare areas off-limits.

Cypriot citizens visiting Thailand are advised to monitor news reports (international and local) for any developments, and follow the instructions of the local Authorities.

In case of emergency, Cypriot citizens can contact the Duty Officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on +357 99660129, or the Crisis Management Department at the MFA on +357 22801000 or the High Commission of the Republic of Cyprus in New Delhi, India (D64, Malcha Marg, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi – 110021, ΙΝDΙΑ, Tel.  (+91 11) 26111156/57, Email: delhihc@mfa.gov.cy).
