We did not come to Qatar to ask for free funds;
what we want is that if an investment is made either by the State or by private
parties, for it to be an investment that will offer mutual benefit to both
sides, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Ioannis Kasoulides, who is
accompanying the President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, on his
official visit to Qatar, said today.
In his remarks to reporters, Mr Kasoulides said
“in a little while the official visit of the President of the Republic in Qatar
will be concluded,” noting that he had a separate meeting with the Minister of
Foreign Affairs of Qatar.
He also pointed out: “The purpose of the visit,
beyond the strengthening of the friendly relations between the two countries,
is for the various possibilities and opportunities for economic relations
between the two countries to be made available, either at the State level – and
here reference is made to the possibility of investments on the part of the
various state institutions of Qatar in Cyprus – or between Cypriot and Qatari
businesspeople.
What can be gathered as the result of these
efforts is that the way is opening for representatives of Qatari state
institutions or representatives of the private sector to come to Cyprus, to see
what is offered and to explore and decide if it is profitable for them and in
their interest to invest.
We did not come here to ask for free funds. What
we want is that if an investment is made either by the State or by private
parties, for it to be an investment that will offer mutual benefit to both
sides.”
