The
President of the Republic Mr Nicos Anastasiades received messages of
condolences for the death of former President of the Republic Glafcos
Clerides, from the President of Israel Mr Shimon Peres, the Crown
Prince of the state of Kuwait Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber
Al-Sabah and the President of Estonia Mr Toomas Hendrick Ilves.
In
his message President Peres said that Glafcos Clerides was “a
highly respected statesman who contributed significantly to
establishing diplomatic relations between Israel and Cyprus. We in
Israel had a great deal of respect for this outstanding politician
and friend of our country. I dearly valued the personal friendship we
developed.”
In
his message the Prince of Kuwait expressed deep and sincere
condolences to the Republic of Cyprus, its friendly people and the
family of the deceased.
On
his part, the President of Estonia underlined President Clerides’
role in Cypriot recent history and in advancing the well-being of the
people of Cyprus. “He was a respected leader, a peacemaker in the
true sense of the word,” he added.
