Remarks by the President of the Republic after the
doxology
on the occasion of the national anniversary of the
1st of April
The President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades,
attended, today, the celebrations for the national anniversary of Cyprus’
anticolonial liberation struggle, which was launched on 1 April 1955.
On the sidelines of the celebrations, in response to a
question about the recent remarks by the President of Turkey that, following the
Parliamentary Elections in Cyprus in May, there will be an acceleration of the
negotiations on the Cyprus problem that will bring a solution by the end of the
year, and to a reporter’s observation that this statement indicates that there
will be no developments until after the elections, President Anastasiades said:
“That (lack of developments) will not be attributable to
our side. Those who invoke the elections as a reason for a supposed slowing down
in the negotiations, they do so in order to hide, if you wish, their own
positions that are strongly in contrast to principles of law”.
Invited to comment on Cyprus’ official exit from the economic support
program, the President of the Republic said that “it is definitely a success,
which, however, does not permit complacency by anyone”.
