The President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, presided today, at the Presidential Palace, over a meeting of the leaders of the parliamentary parties.
After the meeting, the Deputy Government Spokesman, Mr Viktoras Papadopoulos, told reporters that “the President of the Republic today briefed the leaders of the parliamentary parties, extensively, on all his international contacts.
He also briefed the leaders about the positive impressions from the first meeting he had with the leader of the Turkish Cypriot community, Mr Mustafa Akinci.
The President of the Republic told the party leaders that he will keep them fully briefed on a regular basis about the developments at the negotiating table. The meeting of the party leaders with the President of the Republic took place in an excellent climate.”
Asked if the parties submitted proposals today with regard to the meeting that the President will have next Friday with Mr Akinci, Mr Papadopoulos said that “the parties listened attentively to what the President told them and some views were exchanged.”
In response to an observation by a reporter that there are reservations by the parties about some Confidence Building Measures, in particular about those that appear more complicated, and asked whether the government will take into consideration these concerns of the parties, Mr Papadopoulos said that “the position of the Government was expressed immediately after the first meeting of the President with Mr Akinci. The President and Mr. Akinci agreed to study easily and quickly implemented measures and other measures that have a direct impact on the lives of the citizens.”
In response to a question whether the President briefed the parties whether there is any intention with regard to the issue of the Tymbou airport, Mr Papadopoulos said that “there is no such issue and no such issue was raised by Mr Akinci either.”
