The President of the Republic
received
a financial contribution from the
State of Kuwait
for the Committee on Missing
Persons
At
a special ceremony at the Presidential Palace today, the President of
the Republic,
Mr Nicos Anastasiades, received from the Ambassador of Kuwait, Mr
Ahmad Salem Ahmad Al-Wehaib, a contribution of €200.000 on behalf
of the State of Kuwait to assist the work of the Committee on Missing
Persons (CMP) in Cyprus.
Speaking
at the ceremony, the President of the Republic said:
«I would like first and foremost to express my sincere gratitude and
deep appreciation to the Government, and to the Emir of Kuwait,
Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah, on behalf of the Government
and the people of Cyprus, for the contribution of two hundred
thousand euros
to
the Committee of Missing Persons.
This
financial contribution, which was announced during my official visit
to Kuwait in October, is a reflection of the historically excellent
relations between our two countries but also of the common suffering
of our people. Both Cyprus and Kuwait have been victims of invasion;
regrettably Cyprus remains a victim of continued occupation.
Moreover, both Cyprus
and Kuwait
have missing persons, and therefore Kuwait is particularly sensitive
on this humanitarian issue and demonstrates this by assisting Cyprus
at this difficult time.
