The
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Ioannis Kasoulides will travel
tomorrow to India, to participate in the deliberations of the
Ministerial Asia - Europe Meeting (ASEM), which will take place
between 11-12 November in New Delhi.
Issues
on the agenda of ASEM will include, inter alia, the economic
cooperation and sustainable development between the countries of
Europe and Asia, matters related to international security with
particular emphasis on efforts to combat terrorism and to address
cyber threats, as well as other regional issues. During his
intervention, Minister Kasoulides will express Cyprus’ positions on
water and energy security, as well as counter terrorism policies.
In
the context of ASEM, Minister Kasoulides will hold bilateral meetings
with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of India and Bangladesh, and
the Deputy Foreign Ministers of Myanmar and Thailand.
In
the evening of the 12th
of November, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will travel to Sri
Lanka, where he will participate in the Meeting of the Ministers of
Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth member states, to be held in
Colombo between 13 -15 November. The said meeting serves as
preparatory for the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting
which will follow and where President Anastasiades will participate.
The Ministerial meeting will focus on the finalization of draft
texts, declarations and resolutions which will be adopted by the
Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
On
the sidelines of the Meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs,
Minister Kasoulides is expected to hold bilateral meetings with his
counterparts and senior officials of other Commonwealth member
states.
