Opening of the deliberations of the 3rd
Ministerial Meeting
of the Med Group, in
Limassol
The opening of the deliberations of the 3rd Ministerial
Meeting of the Mediterranean Group (Med Group) took place today, 26 February
2016, in Limassol, Cyprus, under the presidency of the Minister of Foreign
Affairs of Cyprus, Mr Ioannis Kasoulides, and with the participation of the
Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Spain and the
State Minister for European Affairs of France.
Upon welcoming his counterparts, Minister Kasoulides
referred to the goals of today’s Meeting, noting that its deliberations will
focus, inter alia, on the efforts to resolve the crisis in Syria, as well as
security and stability issues in the Eastern Mediterranean region, with
particular emphasis on the situation in Syria and Lebanon. Furthermore, the
Ministers will exchange views on recent developments in Libya and the actions of
the EU to address the phenomena of terrorism and migration in the wider Sahel
region.
During the working lunch, which will take place in the
presence of the Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), Mr
Fathallah Sijilmassi, the institutional relations between the EU and the Arab
world will be discussed.
The Ministerial Meeting will conclude with the adoption
of a Joint Communiqué and a joint Press conference.
