The Minister of Foreign Affairs will participate
in the 70th General Assembly of the United
Nations
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Ioannis Kasoulides, departs
today, 22 September, for New York to participate in the 70 th General
Assembly of the United Nations. During his stay in New York Minister Kasoulides
will hold a series of bilateral meetings with Foreign Ministers and multilateral
meetings with representatives of international organisations. Additionally, the
Foreign Minister will participate in a trilateral meeting with his counterparts
from Greece and Egypt, in order to examine ways for strengthening the ties
between the three countries, as well as exchange views on regional issues of
mutual interest.
Regarding multilateral contacts, Mr Kasoulides will, inter alia,
participate in the EU Foreign Ministers meeting, the Commonwealth Foreign
Ministers meeting, the Francophonie Foreign Minister’s meeting and the
“Transatlantic Dinner”. Moreover, he is expected to intervene in the Ministerial
Security Council Meeting on “Settlement of conflicts and countering terrorism in
Middle East and North Africa”, to be chaired by Russian Foreign Minister, Mr
Sergei Lavrov.
Mr Kasoulides will also attend President Anastasiades’ meetings with
the UN Secretary General, the US Vice President and State Secretary, the Prime
Minister of India, the President of Egypt, the Prime Minister of Greece, the
President of the State of Palestine, the Foreign Minister of Russia and the
Permanent Representatives of the five Permanent Members of the UN Security
Council.
In the sidelines of his visit to the US, Mr Kasoulides will meet with
Archbishop Demetrios of America, with the representatives of diaspora
organisations, as well as with Jewish organisations in the United States.
Minister Kasoulides returns to Cyprus on Sunday, 4 October.
