The President of the Republic received members
of the Hudson Institute

The President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, received today, at the Presidential Palace, members of the Hudson Institute think tank, from the United States.   After the meeting, the Senior Fellow of the Institute, Mr Seth Cropsey, made the following statement to the Press:

“We represent Hudson Institute which is a prominent Washington Research Institute.   This is my second visit to Cyprus, I was here last year, and we are here because we believe there are a lot of important issues we share in common and concerns that we share in common – and I am not only talking about Hudson Institute but the United States – with Cyprus.   We both have democratic political convictions, we are both democracies, we both have an interest in the security of this part of the world which is becoming more turbulent and I think that Americans are starting to realize the importance of good, solid, dependable democratic partners, allies, in this part of the world.

My meeting with the President was specifically to discuss that, and I look forward to more cooperation between our research institute and Cyprus and also I hope that our efforts can increase that cooperation so that Americans in general and American political leadership understands the importance of a strong relationship between Cyprus and the United States.”

To a question if Cyprus fits the bill he described and how can the country contribute in building that security and spreading it, Mr Cropsey said: “There are exercises that are being conducted right now between Cyprus and Israel and Greece and the United States at sea and continuing those exercises and increasing their breadth and scope builds interoperability and capability between sea powers and naval powers.   I think that increases security in this part of the world and I think that simply talking together and acting together and continuing and improving the dialogue between the two countries and all the countries in this part of the world that are democratic as is the United States goes a great deal towards accomplishing exactly what you asked.
