Statement
attributable to the Spokesperson of the Good Offices Mission
in
Cyprus, Mr Michel Bonnardeux
The
Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Mr Jeffrey Feltman,
concluded his official visit to Cyprus today. During his
familiarization trip, he met with the two leaders, as well as with
the Greek Cypriot negotiator and the Turkish Cypriot negotiator, and
held discussions on the next steps in the negotiations.
Mr
Feltman conveyed to the two leaders the Secretary-General’s
continued personal focus on the process, recognizing the historic
importance of the Joint Declaration and underlining the need to
maintain momentum in the talks. He will continue to follow closely
the developments in the negotiations and looks forward to further
progress in the forthcoming period. Mr Feltman reiterated the United
Nations’ readiness to continue to support the two sides in their
efforts to reach a comprehensive settlement.
