The
decision to open a Diplomatic Mission by the United Arab Emirates
(UAE) in Nicosia is an important step in strengthening further
relations between the Republic of Cyprus and the UAE, said
the Government Spokesman Mr Nikos Christodoulides today. He also
noted that there is interest for investments in Cyprus, but hard work
is required on our part so that there can be results.
In
his remarks to reporters on the sidelines of the official visit of
the President of the Republic to the United Arab Emirates, Mr
Christodoulides
said that “the visit to the United Arab Emirates takes place in the
framework of the series of visits by the President of the Republic to
the Gulf states.
The
President today met with the Crown Prince. There was a discussion in
a very good atmosphere, there is interest about Cyprus, and they know
Cyprus. They will be opening a Diplomatic Mission in Nicosia very
shortly and this is a very important step in strengthening further
our bilateral relations.
One
of the main reasons that the President of the Republic, who is
accompanied by Ministers, is here, is to attract investments to
Cyprus. It is important that there is interest.
The
coming of the President here establishes the first contact – he is
accompanied by a number of businessmen – and there needs to be a
follow-up, there needs to be seriousness on our part, so that there
will be results. We must not jump ahead of developments, but there
will be hard work done, so that we can have results.
The
President, so far, had three meetings with investment funds – they
are state funds and they invest in many countries of Europe. There is
real interest about the fact that the Republic of Cyprus is member
state of the EU and about the hydrocarbons issue –in Abu Dhabi more
than 80% of the revenues come from the hydrocarbons sector- and
it is expected that we will subsequently see, also through our own
work, that there will be results.”
