In an atmosphere of deep national sorrow and
great pain for his untimely loss, the Minister of Defence Tasos
Mitsopoulos was laid to rest today in his hometown Larnaca.
The
Archbishop of Cyprus Chrysostomos II officiated at the funeral, at
the Holy Church of Ayios Georgios Kontos, in Larnaca, in
the presence of the President of the Republic Mr Nicos Anastasiades,
government and state officials, representatives of the government of
Greece, and a huge crowd of people.
The
government of
Greece was represented by the Minister of National Defence Mr
Demetris Avramopoulos.
In his eulogy, President Anastasiades referred
to their common journey with Tasos Mistsopoulos over the last twenty
years, but also to the virtues of the deceased as a human being and
as a politician.
The President of the Republic referred also to
the great love that Tasos Mitsopoulos felt both for Cyprus and
Greece, as well as for Europe.
