The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Ioannis Kasoulides, travels today to Brussels, to participate in
the Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) and the General Affairs Council (GAC) of the
European Union, to be held on 16 and 17 December respectively.
During the FAC, the Ministers will discuss, inter alia, the
developments in the Southern Neighborhood, focusing on Syria and Lebanon, the
recent agreement on Iran's nuclear program, the Eastern Partnership, the
situation in the Central African Republic, issues related to the Western
Balkans, and the developments in Myanmar / Burma. The EU Foreign Ministers will
also attend a working lunch, hosted by EU High Representative, Baroness Ashton,
in to the presence of the Foreign Minister of Russia, Mr Lavrov.
In the context of the GAC, the Ministers will discuss the EU
Enlargement and Stabilization and Association Process, on which Conclusions are
expected to be adopted. Furthermore, EU Ministers will exchange views on the
review of the European External Action Service and will prepare the upcoming
European Council meeting, to be held between 19-20 December.
