The Ministry of
Foreign Affairs condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the bomb attack
which took place in Beirut on the 27th of December, and led to the
death of a number of people, including Mohamad Chatah, former Lebanese Minister
of Finance. In parallel, it extends its condolences to the families of the
victims and wishes speedy recovery to those injured.
The perpetrators
of this heinous act should be brought to justice without haste. Cyprus hopes
that this deplorable act will not hinder efforts to form a new Government in
Lebanon and wishes that calm among all Lebanese will prevail.
Cyprus would
like to extend once again its full solidarity to Lebanon and its people. We
remain fully committed to a united, independent, sovereign and stable Lebanon
and will continue working to preserve Lebanon’s security, stability and prosperity.
