Remarks by the President of the Republic
after his
meeting with the Turkish Cypriot leader
and the
UN Secretary
General’s Special Adviser on the Cyprus problem
The President of the Republic Mr Nikos
Anastasiades characterized as constructive the discussion he had today with the
leader of the Turkish Cypriot community Mr Dervish Eroglu and the new UN
Secretary General’s Special Adviser on the Cyprus problem Mr Espen Barth
Eide.
In his remarks to reporters after his
arrival at the Presidential Palace from the location where the talks on the
Cyprus issue took place, at the old Nicosia airport, the President of the
Republic said that “the statement of the Special Adviser of the Secretary
General of the UN speaks for itself.
There was a constructive discussion and
certainly the necessity to engage in a substantive dialogue, in order to avert
today’s situation. Therefore, what I want to see is what will be Mr Eroglu’s
conduct at the negotiating table.”
Asked if he is optimistic from Mr
Eroglu’s stance so far, the President of the Republic said that “I would not
want to make any comments which may be seen as a blame game. I simply confine
myself to what I have told you.”
